Are his prices stinging like a bee or floating like a butterfly?

Collectors love it, but public debate rages over slated Simon Bull Ali acquisition by Valley Medical Center. 

SAN JOSE — It’s considered a special painting of Muhammad Ali, by the world heavyweight champ’s official artist.

Santa Clara County is considering buying the painting of an 18-year-old Cassius Clay before the 1960 Olympics to display at Valley Medical Center.

“It is the Mona Lisa of the Ali’s,” said Mary Doble, vice president of global sales at the Meuse Gallery in Carmel, where Bull’s paintings are on display. “It affects everyone when they come into the gallery…and he was a universal figure of courage and strength.”
